We strive to make your volunteer time a meaningful and memorable experience.
For this to happen, your willingness to learn and work with others is required.

Habitat-SCC is a volunteer-driven organization. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us as we build and rehab simple, safe, affordable houses in partnership with God and families in need. Though the vast majority have no construction experience or building skills, volunteers are involved in most phases of construction. By working side-by-side with the family who will live in the house, our volunteers experience for themselves the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of home ownership.

Most people think of swinging a hammer when they think about volunteering for Habitat. Due to the tremendous amount of planning and management required to build just one home, we need more than labor and muscle on the construction site. Creativity, strategy, and technical skills are among the many invaluable traits volunteers bring to the organization. With a minimal staff, Habitat-SCC depends upon volunteer committees for support with projects like Family Services, Public Relations, Funds Development, and Volunteer Services. We also offer opportunities in our ReStore, a home improvement retail outlet.

We invite volunteers to help us build, assist in the office, work in the ReStore, join a committee, serve on our board of directors, and help with special projects that benefit the organization. Time commitments vary; some volunteers dedicate every day of the week to Habitat-SCC and others spend just a few hours each month working on builds, rehab projects or in the ReStore. As a volunteer for Habitat-SCC, you can choose to volunteer as little or as often as you would like. All of these positions are a tremendous help that directly or indirectly result in the construction of safe, simple and affordable homes.

Habitat-SCC offers volunteer opportunities for you to help with all aspects of home construction and repair.  We have both construction and non-construction volunteer opportunities available to you. You do not need to be an expert in construction to help out on a work site. There are many tasks that require only a willingness to learn and work with others. On-site construction work is the most popular of Habitat’s volunteer opportunities. We make every effort to incorporate all willing volunteers regardless of skill level. Most volunteer opportunities are for those 16 years of age and older.  Occasionally we can accommodate volunteer groups under 16 years of age, but need additional coordination assistance from the youth group.
